How the TAS cycle actually works, in 5 mechanics from r/ausjdocs (not policy)
Statewide RMO campaign + separate Doctors in Training ads lore 4 authors
Two parallel campaigns on careers.jobs.tas.gov.au: a statewide rotational RMO application, and individually advertised SRMO/registrar/fellow jobs within the Doctors in Training campaign. Applicants preference the three regions.
Generic shortlisting email, then silence lore 5 authors
The Department sends a single all-applicant email saying shortlisting has begun and that candidates will be contacted if selected; individual shortlisting notifications follow weeks later. Referees are contacted at shortlisting.
Slowest timeline in the country lore 4 authors
The dominant community claim is 'it moves at a snail's pace' — one applicant reports interviewing mid-August and receiving a first-round offer in late October; two months of silence after the close is normal. Specialty streams (paediatrics, psychiatry) move much faster than the generic RMO campaign.
First-preference rejection then a manual second-preference process lore 2 authors · single report
Applicants rejected by their first-preference site are emailed a named contact to write to for second-preference consideration, rather than being automatically re-pooled.
Short contracts lore 4 authors
Mid-year entrants report being offered as little as 3 months initially where other jurisdictions offer two-year contracts; note that a mid-year BPT entry normally requires a 6-month contract as an eligibility criterion.

2028Tasmania statewide Resident Medical Officer applicationsmainexpectedhealth.tas.gov.auBased on 3 previous years (2023 close 2 Jul; 2024 3 Jun–3 Jul; 2026 25 May–22 Jun; 2025 campaign never archived); recruitment-cycles.md pattern: 'late May–late June [P]'. TAS site is Cloudflare-gated — needs a browser fetch.
2026Tasmania Doctors in Training 2026 — early registrar adearly11 May 2025confirmedwaybackSingle ad from the vacancy table: 'Senior Anaesthetic Registrar/Provisional Fellow - 2026 (513006L1) — 11 May 2025'. No 2026 statewide RMO campaign page was ever captured (site Cloudflare-blocked from ~Nov 2025).
2026TAS Statewide Resident Medical Officer campaignmainexpectedreddit.comExistence row: the CY2026 TAS statewide RMO campaign demonstrably ran but has no dates anywhere in the repo. Community evidence: applications closed late June 2025; TasHealth emailed all applicants on 1 Jul 2025 that shortlisting had begun, then nothing for weeks (4 reports, https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1ltn5tz/); by 10 Sep 2025 applicants were receiving first-preference (RHH) rejections carrying a named contact to email for second-preference consideration, others the blanket statewide rejection (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1nd2in5/). No open/close/offer date is evidenced, so all date fields are null rather than inferred from the 2024 (3 Jun - 3 Jul) and 2026 (25 May - 22 Jun) campaigns. Why it is missing: health.tas.gov.au has zero Wayback captures of any 2026 campaign page and the live site Cloudflare-403s crawlers from ~Nov 2025 (docs/research/history-backfill-campaign-dates-wa-tas.md) - a browser fetch or a direct approach to TAS Health is the only path to the official dates.

Dots are the median stated date of the hand-read reports the encoders matched to that campaign, weighted by how many comments said so; where none were matched, the median posting date of comments saying a campaign for that state opened, closed, interviewed or offered in the same calendar year — a sanity check on the official date, not a date. Dates drift a week or two each year.

When ads actually closed

Closing months of 4 closed PGY2+ listings since 2023, by employer and specialty

"Usually closes" is the modal month and its share; under three ads and we don't call it. An ad re-advertised three times counts three times. Outside NSW the record starts when we began scraping each portal.
