Interviews late Aug-Sep; letters of offer late Oct. Covers adult medicine, surgery/SRMO/unaccredited, psych, pathology, radiology, RMO. Surgery SET and Dermatology trainees are appointed via college allocation, not the campaign. PATCH 2026-09-13: the live JMO dates page (fetched 2026-09-13) carries a per-position 'email offer date from' column; the modal main-round value for the 2027 clinical year is Wednesday 2 September 2026 (e.g. general medicine, radiology, anatomical pathology rows), so offers_from is set to that, replacing the previous month-range 'late Aug-Oct 2026'. It is a start, not a moment: NSW publishes 'conditional offers are sent from 12pm on the email offer date and continue to be sent daily at regular intervals'. Sub-rounds differ materially - BPT/adult medicine offers 21 Sep 2026, psychiatry 29-30 Sep 2026 - and the community records anatomical pathology offers actually landing 10 Sep against the published 2 Sep (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1w52a91/) and radiology/nuclear medicine offers on 2 Sep, delta 0 (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1w4w8xt/).

Incidents

  • Campbelltown released anaesthetics independent interview offers within 15 hours of the campaign closing, with >300 applications on file; the thread's reading was that the department already knew who it wanted and that advertising was a legal formality. (5 Aug 2026) comment ↗
  • Checkstar referee invitations bounced from NSW Health mailboxes as 'banned sender' during the peak of the 2027 campaign; referees using personal addresses still saw 16–48 h delays, and at least one applicant only got the reports sent after ringing the helpline on 31 Aug — after most interviews had happened. (15 Aug 2026) comment ↗ 2 ↗
  • WA-style outcome certainty does not exist in NSW: applicants who interviewed for ICU registrar jobs reported that the published outcome date had passed with neither an offer nor a rejection. (4 Sept 2026) comment ↗

Only the interview window is in the report: 'NSW Feb-27 interviews 13-24 Jul 2026'. Application window not stated. NSW psychiatry has Feb and Aug intakes. PATCH 2026-09-13: the psychiatry rows on https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/jmo/Pages/dates.aspx (fetched 2026-09-13) carry email offer dates of 29-30 September 2026; offers_from set to the earlier of the two. Medium confidence: the dates page rows sit in the main round (advertised 14 Jul - 4 Aug 2026) whereas this seed row is modelled as an 'early' RANZCP round carrying only the 13-24 Jul 2026 interview window, so verify which specific dates-page row this campaign corresponds to before publishing the date.

How the NSW cycle actually works — 9 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
Portal lore 4 authors
NSW Health JMO Career Portal / eRecruit (Taleo). One global resume upload shared across every application; each application flags which uploaded documents are 'relevant'. Deleting a resume strips it from every application already submitted, and the file allowance runs out (~25 files) if you upload a cover letter per job. Draft applications frequently cannot be re-edited without withdrawing and re-applying.
Closing time lore 2 authors · single report
Advertised closing date means 23:59 on that date for most ads, but a minority close in the morning (~10:00). No universal standard is published; the community treats 23:59 local as the default and applies a day early.
No cover letter; selection-criteria questionnaire lore 7 authors
Applications carry per-job questionnaires with a 4,000-character limit per answer. For anaesthetics jobs the criteria answers are marked and scored alongside the (also marked) CV to decide interview invites; for generic RMO jobs many applicants believe they are not read. Questions repeat the dot points in the position-description PDF, so answers can be pre-written.
Referees — Checkstar/Checkster lore 11 authors
Two referees entered into the Checkster platform, which emails them directly. Reported failure modes: 16–48 h delivery lag; NSW Health mail servers bouncing the invite as a 'banned sender'; the helpline having to send manually; and the platform only allowing one submission, so changing a referee after the fact is very difficult. Referee checks are requested at interview-invitation stage for scheme/AT jobs, and after offer for others.
Interviews lore 6 authors
Per-hospital panels; ~10 minutes is standard for RMO/SRMO. Some LHDs use one-way HireVue-style recorded interviews (CCLHD), with no re-sit if the software fails. Notice can be under 48 h and no Teams/Zoom alternative is offered to interstate applicants.
Offer mechanics lore 9 authors
Offer dates are fixed per specialty on health.nsw.gov.au/jmo dates.aspx; 'Conditional offers are sent from 12pm on the email offer date … and continue to be sent daily at regular intervals', so the published date is a start, not a release moment. Conditional offers lapse after 48 h. Applications are NOT centralised — accepting one offer does not withdraw you from other jobs, and the community's standard advice is to accept a backup and decline it later.
Anaesthetics 'mothers meeting' lore 14 authors
Two statewide HoD meetings decide anaesthetics allocations after interviews: the scheme (accredited network) meeting in late July and the independent/unaccredited meeting in late August. Interviewed candidates are sent a preference survey beforehand; successful candidates get a phone call from the department on the evening of the meeting (reported as late as 20:40), formal NSW Health offers the next day. No call on the day of the meeting = no first-round offer.
Rejections lore 16 authors
Most hospitals never send one. Applications are deliberately left 'pending' as a reserve list; template 'Recruitment Finalised' emails arrive 6–24 months later, sometimes after the applicant has already worked the job. One consultant reports timely rejections <10% of the time across an entire NSW career.
Residency status lore 3 authors
Applicants without Australian PR report being deprioritised; the community's understanding (attributed to JMSU) is that NSW and ACT must consider residents first. Australian-trained applicants on temporary visas still report reduced interview rates.

  • Blacktown anaesthetics: the HoD emailed provisional offers on the evening of 17 Aug 2025, then the formal NSW Health emails that followed the next day carried the start dates reversed relative to the HoD email, leaving candidates unsure which contract they had. (18 Aug 2025) comment ↗
  • A CCLHD HireVue one-way interview locked up mid-question when the candidate maximised an image and could not close it; the candidate emailed video proof, and the consensus reply was that panels sit once and generally will not re-interview. (20 Aug 2025) comment ↗
  • An applicant deleted an old resume from the NSW portal while uploading a new one and it was stripped from every already-submitted application, with no way to re-attach to a submitted application; salvage was limited to emailing the CV directly to the hospitals that had already offered interviews. Incidents

  • PMCV preference data loss: on 15 Jul 2026, BPT1 applicants received an email saying preferences had been affected by 'technical issues'. Applicants found sites missing from their preference lists (Bayside Peninsula removed) and PMCV asked candidates to reply with their preferences because 'they've lost everything' — one week before the match ran. (15 July 2026) comment ↗
How the VIC cycle actually works — 6 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
Two applications, not one lore 5 authors
The PMCV match is necessary but not sufficient: candidates must register and preference in the PMCV Allocation & Placement Service AND submit a separate application to each health service's own careers portal. Health services only see, shortlist and interview applicants who lodged the direct application; several people who were 'unmatched' had only done the PMCV half.
Referees lore 5 authors
PMCV referee reports are online forms sent to nominated referees with a hard deadline (BPT1 2026 cycle: 5pm on the application closing date). Community reading is that an application cannot proceed until all nominated referee reports are complete; there is no 'submit' button on the PMCV side, the portal state at the deadline is the submission. Non-match applications use a downloadable PMCV referee form the applicant uploads, which means you can read what your referee wrote.
Interviews are optional and hospital-specific lore 9 authors
Interviewing is entirely at the health service's discretion and varies year to year. Monash did not interview for PGY2 in 2025 or 2026 (selection on CV, cover letter and referee reports); Eastern Health did not interview internal or external PGY2 candidates in 2025 but did in 2026. Invitations arrive by email, text or phone call, sometimes rolling over two weeks.
Pre-match / internal hiring lore 6 authors
Health services fill most places from internal candidates before the match opens; external applicants compete for a small residue. Reported ratios: Eastern Health 80 BPT1 interviews for 30 spots; a psychiatry service with '5 spots' having pre-selected 4 internals.
Accepting lore 4 authors
Match results land on the PMCV dashboard at 10:00 on the published day; the accept window is short (reported as 24 h, with applicants believing it was 48 h) and the health service will also email you separately. Non-match PGY3+ offers are direct from the hospital.
PGY3+ is outside the match entirely lore 8 authors
HMO3/critical-care/anaesthetics/ED/surgical SRMO streams are recruited directly by each health service, with their own closing dates from April to early June and interviews in June — months before the PGY2 match opens.

How the QLD cycle actually works — 7 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
One application, ranked preferences lore 8 authors
A single Queensland Health RMO & Registrar Campaign application nominating level (JHO / SHO / PHO / registrar) and up to five facility/specialty preferences. HoDs receive bundles containing all five preferences; competitive departments fill from first preferences only, so ranking a job second is functionally not applying for it. Multiple offers are possible but only one can be accepted; for some pathways declining the first offer removes you from the pool entirely.
CV template, no cover letter field lore 5 authors
The campaign supplies its own CV format and a career-goals statement; there is no cover-letter slot (you can staple one to the CV). Senior staff report not reading cover letters at all and going straight to the CV and the target-question answers.
Referee trap — emails fire on Save lore 6 authors
The online application emails your referees the moment you click Save on the referee page, not when you submit. Editing that page afterwards deletes any reports already received and re-sends the requests, so a referee who has already filled it in has to do it again. Referee reports for registrar candidates are due roughly a week after applications close, not at submission.
Interviews are the exception lore 7 authors
Many health services make offers with no interview at all, including RBWH for rotational RMO; competitive PHO/registrar jobs do interview, generally only from the first preference. Not being interviewed is not a rejection signal.
Two-stage offer sequence lore 9 authors
Registrar/PHO offers run first (late July–August); JHO/SHO offers only start once the PHO/registrar round is finished, because unsuccessful PHO applicants fall back into the RMO pool. A generic 're-confirm your preferences' email goes to everyone between the two rounds — it is not a signal about your application.
Re-preference rounds and vacancy lists lore 7 authors
Unsuccessful applicants are emailed a list of the remaining vacancies and invited to re-preference; this happens more than once, with a further round in mid/late October naming everyone 'yet to obtain a position'. The community treats this as the real safety net.
Outside the campaign lore 9 authors
Queensland is the jurisdiction where cold-calling still works: EDs are chronically short, private hospitals (Greenslopes, Wesley, Mater) and QEII hire directly, and people who miss the deadline entirely report walking into SHO jobs by phone or email.

25 May-22 Jun 2026 12:00 AWST (Govt media statement + MedCareersWA). Up to 3 site preferences. Key dates now PDF-only on publicstorage.dc2.pageuppeople.com. PATCH 2026-09-13: the three missing milestones come from a candidate's verbatim quote of the MedCareersWA suitability-pool email of 10 Aug 2026 - 'First offers round - from 17 August 2026 (candidates 1st preference hospital gets first opportunity); General offers round - from 7 September 2026 (any hospital - 2nd/3rd preference, etc.); Final cutoff - 12:00PM AWST, Friday 11 September 2026. No offer by this deadline means the pool has closed and the application is unsuccessful' (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1uv2lde/wa_rmosmr_campaign_2027/p2rrul1/) - corroborated by 14 independent offer reports from 17 Aug (PCH day one, KEMH 21 Aug, SJOG interview 14 Aug then offer, FSH 26 Aug, WACHS 28 Aug). Assessment/selection period 13 Jul - 7 Aug 2026 and referee-report deadline 23 Jul 2026 also have no field. THE POOL CUT-OFF HAS NO FIELD IN THIS SCHEMA: 12:00 AWST Friday 11 Sep 2026, and it was extended by email on 9 Sep 2026 - the seed needs a closes_pool_at (or equivalent) column, because in WA 'no offer by the cut-off' is the rejection. First-offers round moved a week earlier than CY2026 (25 Aug 2025), which the community did not notice for three days. Incidents

  • Referee reports arriving after the Notification of Outcomes were refused — 'the reference check period is now closed for further requests' — while the applicant was already in the suitable pool. Separately, several applicants were placed in the suitable pool with no referee reports completed at all, which made the role of referee reports in the ranking unclear to applicants. (12 Aug 2026) comment ↗ 2 ↗
  • WA switched the first-offer date a week earlier for CY2027 (17 Aug 2026 vs 25 Aug 2025) without the community noticing in advance, producing three days of 'either we've all been rejected or there's some kind of delay' before metro offers actually landed. (20 Aug 2026) comment ↗
  • The stated hard pool-closure deadline (12:00PM AWST, Fri 11 Sep 2026) was extended by email on 9 Sep 2026, two days before it fell. (9 Sept 2026) comment ↗

How the WA cycle actually works — 7 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
Three site preferences into one pool lore 12 authors
One MedCareersWA application with up to three site preferences at RMO and/or SMR level. The centralised step produces a 'suitability pool' outcome, not a job: being deemed suitable only means your application is released to your first-preference site, which then decides whether to interview or offer. Unsuccessful-at-first-preference applications then flow into a general pool visible to 2nd and 3rd preference sites.
Two dated offer rounds and a hard cut-off official 9 authors
A first-offers round in which only the first-preference hospital may offer, then a general-offers round three weeks later for any site, then a stated pool-closure deadline with a time and timezone (12:00PM AWST, Friday 11 September 2026 for CY2027). No offer by the cut-off = unsuccessful. The cut-off is the only published hard deadline of its kind in any jurisdiction — and in 2026 it was extended by email two days before it fell.
Most sites do not interview lore 10 authors
Metro sites generally make direct offers off the written application; WACHS regional sites and Perth Children's Hospital interview, and St John of God Midland has used one-way video interviews. 'WA does not do interview, the selection is based on your application only' is the community's default assumption and is right more often than not.
Referee checks happen early and then close lore 8 authors
Referees are contacted within days of submission, before any interview, and the portal never shows whether they replied — the only way to know is to ask the referee. Once the Notification of Outcomes is sent, the reference-check period closes for further requests, so a late referee cannot be repaired.
Portal status wording lore 7 authors
'Application received' → 'Application under assessment/review' → suitability-pool email. Rejections are not sent until all rounds are finished, and a status still reading 'Application received' during the offers round means the first preference has not yet acted.
Prior Australian experience screen lore 2 authors · single report
Feedback emails to unsuccessful IMGs cite the absence of at least 6 months of Australian hospital experience in the past 3 years, alongside a list of ~26 recognised countries of prior practice.
Mid-year pool lore 11 authors
A separate mid-year campaign opens in January for August starts, running the same suitability-pool → first-preference offers → general round → pool closure sequence on a compressed calendar.

How the SA cycle actually works — 5 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
Central EOI with preferences lore 2 authors · single report
One SA MET expression of interest on SA Health Careers with a small number of program preferences; the resume and references collected by SA MET are widely believed by applicants not to be read at the screening stage, with the program-level assessment doing the work.
Shortlist then program interview lore 2 authors · single report
Shortlisting notifications and interview requests land in late July / early August; candidates can be shortlisted for more than one program (e.g. TAPPP and General Training) at once.
TAPPP is the de facto psychiatry entry lore 6 authors
The statewide prevocational psychiatry program (TAPPP) is treated as the route onto SA psychiatry training — 'essentially a fancy unaccredited position' — but is not a guarantee, and taking it tends to lock you in Adelaide until Stage 2.
Anaesthetics runs on its own clock lore 6 authors
SANTRATS (the rotational anaesthetics scheme) recruits separately from the PGY2+ EOI, with two intakes a year; shortlisting from late August, interviews early September, rejections mid-September. Independent/service registrar anaesthetics jobs are advertised ad hoc on SA Health Careers all year and are searched for by program name, not by job title.

It runs on its own clock with two intakes a year and closes 2-3 weeks after going live, so a fixed annual window should not be assumed; a round had 'just closed' by 4 Apr 2025 (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1jqzc4o/). Official mechanism (ANZCA, https://www.anzca.edu.au/education-and-training/anaesthesia-training-and-pathways/anaesthesia-training-program/anaesthesia-training-sites-and-rotations/accredited-training-sites-south-australia-and-northern-territory): SA Health advertises the positions on the SA Health careers site and ANZCA mirrors them on the SANTRATS page - so the scrapable campaign lives on SA Health Careers, not on samet.org.au. Community also reports it favours SA/NT applicants and that independent/service anaesthetics registrar jobs appear on SA Health Careers all year and must be searched by program name, not job title.

How the TAS cycle actually works — 5 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
Statewide RMO campaign + separate Doctors in Training ads lore 4 authors
Two parallel campaigns on careers.jobs.tas.gov.au: a statewide rotational RMO application, and individually advertised SRMO/registrar/fellow jobs within the Doctors in Training campaign. Applicants preference the three regions.
Generic shortlisting email, then silence lore 5 authors
The Department sends a single all-applicant email saying shortlisting has begun and that candidates will be contacted if selected; individual shortlisting notifications follow weeks later. Referees are contacted at shortlisting.
Slowest timeline in the country lore 4 authors
The dominant community claim is 'it moves at a snail's pace' — one applicant reports interviewing mid-August and receiving a first-round offer in late October; two months of silence after the close is normal. Specialty streams (paediatrics, psychiatry) move much faster than the generic RMO campaign.
First-preference rejection then a manual second-preference process lore 2 authors · single report
Applicants rejected by their first-preference site are emailed a named contact to write to for second-preference consideration, rather than being automatically re-pooled.
Short contracts lore 4 authors
Mid-year entrants report being offered as little as 3 months initially where other jurisdictions offer two-year contracts; note that a mid-year BPT entry normally requires a 6-month contract as an eligibility criterion.

No 2026 statewide RMO campaign page was ever captured (site Cloudflare-blocked from ~Nov 2025).
2026TAS Statewide Resident Medical Officer campaignmainexpectedreddit.comExistence row: the CY2026 TAS statewide RMO campaign demonstrably ran but has no dates anywhere in the repo. Community evidence: applications closed late June 2025; TasHealth emailed all applicants on 1 Jul 2025 that shortlisting had begun, then nothing for weeks (4 reports, https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1ltn5tz/); by 10 Sep 2025 applicants were receiving first-preference (RHH) rejections carrying a named contact to email for second-preference consideration, others the blanket statewide rejection (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1nd2in5/). No open/close/offer date is evidenced, so all date fields are null rather than inferred from the 2024 (3 Jun - 3 Jul) and 2026 (25 May - 22 Jun) campaigns. Why it is missing: health.tas.gov.au has zero Wayback captures of any 2026 campaign page and the live site Cloudflare-403s crawlers from ~Nov 2025 (docs/research/history-backfill-campaign-dates-wa-tas.md) - a browser fetch or a direct approach to TAS Health is the only path to the official dates.

How the ACT cycle actually works — 4 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
CHS Taleo portal, separate ads per role lore 3 authors
Canberra Health Services advertises each position type separately on its Taleo career portal; registrar rounds run mid-year and the RMO / Service SRMO round runs from late August to late September, months after every other jurisdiction's main round has closed.
Outcome communication is the worst reported of any jurisdiction lore 5 authors
Candidates interviewed in May were still without an outcome in July, told only that interviewing was ongoing; applicants report total silence after chasing HR, and the portal status stays 'application received'. The two ACT-specific threads in four years are both about this.
Late availability is the flip side lore 4 authors
Because the ACT round runs last, BPT and other roles are still open to apply for in the ACT in late August when NSW and Victoria have finished — it is repeatedly offered as the answer to 'I have no job next year'.
Residency status lore 2 authors · single report
Community understanding (attributed to JMSU) is that, like NSW, ACT Health must prioritise Australian residents before offering to applicants without PR.

How the NT cycle actually works — 3 mechanics from r/ausjdocs, not policy
Two regional campaigns, term-line preferencing lore 2 authors · single report
Top End and Central Australia run separate campaigns on jobs.nt.gov.au and applicants preference term lines/streams rather than generic rotations. The corpus contains almost no first-hand NT campaign reporting: 6 timing events across four years.
Recruits late — the national backstop lore 3 authors
The consistent advice to people left without a job after every other state has closed is to email the NT, which 'tends to recruit later in the year and should respond if you e-mail'. The trade-off named is a 2–3 year commitment to complete mandatory rotations.
Chronically short lore 4 authors
Alice Springs and Darwin are repeatedly named alongside Cairns/Townsville as places 'always crying out for doctors', including for out-of-cycle and mid-year starts on flexible contracts.

Dots are the median stated date of the hand-read reports the encoders matched to that campaign, weighted by how many comments said so; where none were matched, the median posting date of comments saying a campaign for that state opened, closed, interviewed or offered in the same calendar year — a sanity check on the official date, not a date. Dates drift a week or two each year.
