HNE includes Maitland which has a horrible reputation and last I heard is not allowed to have medical registrars for training.
I've also heard good things about John Hunter, great clinical exposure, great RMO society, good culture within the JMO/RMO group
My story is a pretty shit one, I graduated 2015 from UNE/Newcaste (keep it a bit broad, don't want to give myself away) and interned in the HNE network.
The Paeds term at Maitland is adequate for GP training but the medical terms are terrible as someone has mentioned.
@ OP - hopefully you get some actual ED trainees weighing in, but from the limited perspective of having done one JMO term there I can say that the JHH ED bosses were overall supportive & good, the case mix was very interesting and very acute, there was decent teaching, the ED-specific admin were quite helpful.
I am currently a BPT on my geriatrics rotation at HNE in NSW.

No, aside from the fact I’d never be hired by HNE again.
Hi everyone, a resident who's only studied and worked in Victoria here, I am thinking about an accepting a srmo job offer from Belmont hospital but it seems to be a smaller hospital and I couldn't find any posts about it here so i wanted to hear about any feedback/experiences at the hospital.

If a regional area like Tamworth definitely have accredited training positions and say SRMO step up plan (but not guaranteed) then that would be fair and I think they'd be able to put more resources into training you/less dilution with other candidates + regional time is always favoured on CVs.
Of PGY1 I had 3 terms at JHH and 2 others in Newcastle-based peripheral hospitals (didn’t need to relocate for any), for PGY2 I had all at JHH except for 1 in a rural site (did have to relocate for the term).
Whether it's losing med reg accreditation at a large hospital - Maitland, to being threatened with losing JMO's due to their rostering on surgery - JHH, to allowing medical students (AIMS) to come in on Sundays at their largest hospital because they're so short staffed and demoralised.
Then there is JHH which is notoriously understaffed from what I hear, and has a pretty poor culture.
HNE LHD is indisputably the worst LHD to work in (conditions, admin behaviour/attitude towards doctors, workload, etc).
I continue to stay mostly because of friends I’ve made through work, and they’re mostly staying for similar reasons despite the shitty pay and general non-specific bs that comes with working in NSW/HNE.
"AMSOF NSW intervened at Maitland Hospital in September on behalf of a group of registrars reporting unsafe hours, inadequate supervision, poor support and training, and underpayments.

I’m following the Tamworth study guide, reading topic-by-topic, doing iMeducate MCQs, and I’m part of a study group — but the volume still feels overwhelming, and I have no idea how I am going to pass this exam especially as I hear they are using less and less old MCQs questions.

Having said that, I work in arguably the worst run and most archaic network there is - HNE, so this place will easily dampen spirits push those who are motivated to seek greener pastures.

The toxic culture is definitely in medical admin, though Maitland medicine is certainly a difficult rotation and very dependant on the SRMO you get.
