Colorectal & General Surgery Fellow – Shape the Future of Surgical Care at Flinders Medical Centre
Part-time Colorectal and General Surgery RACS Fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre, combining specialist colorectal clinical practice, colonoscopy, colorectal surgical assisting in private, and dedicated research.
About the role:
The position is accountable to the Director of the Division of Surgery and Specialty Services, through the Department Head, for the provision of high-quality care to patients in the wards, investigational and procedural areas, emergency department and outpatients. The position also involves teaching registrars, junior medical officers, and medical students, and to be involved in research and audit work as required, including monthly Journal Club, attend weekly unit and combined general surgery meetings.
Duties for the role will include:
Provide a high-quality clinical service under the direction of the Director of General Surgery and Specific General Surgery, and the Head of Unit.
Providing appropriate clinical care to patients and coordinating follow up of patients for review under the care of the unit or referred to the unit (in particular ensuring timely review and management of patients referred by the Emergency Department).
Ensuring effective communication with other care providers to promote continuity of patient care.
Provide a service for investigation or procedures as required.
Provide education and supervision to both more junior medical staff and medical students.
Provide after-hours care to general surgical patients as required by the published roster for Flinders Medical Centre and supervise your specific units General Surgery medical staff.
Arrange x-ray/pathology review sessions.
About you:
Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
High level skills in problem solving and decision making.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including colleagues and other professional staff.
Broad clinical experience and competence in the practice of General Surgery.
Experience in clinical education and accreditation activities.
Competence in surgical procedures appropriate to general surgery.
RACS Fellow (desirable) with colorectal interest and GESA accredited (or equivalent) for colonoscopies
The role includes private assisting and a research component.
