The service is led by Associate Professor John Amerena, Director of Cardiology Research, who has more than 25 years of clinical trials experience in Australia and internationally, and holds academic appointments with Deakin University and Monash University. He has played key leadership roles in global cardiovascular trials, including positions on international steering and endpoint committees.

This part-time Research Medical Officer position (43 hours per fortnight) will work within a dynamic cardiology research team and report directly to the Director of the Cardiology Research Unit. The successful applicant will provide medical care to patients enrolled in clinical trials, including patient recruitment, obtaining informed consent, ongoing clinical review and management, interpretation and follow-up of pathology results, and education of patients, families and relevant staff. The role also involves data collection and management, and liaison with participants’ general practitioners to ensure continuity of care.

This role offers the opportunity to combine direct patient care with cutting-edge research, supporting improved cardiovascular outcomes while working within an experienced and supportive multidisciplinary research environment.
