About the Role:
Lyell McEwin Hospital is one of South Australia's busiest public hospitals, serving a growing and diverse community in Adelaide's northern suburbs. If you're ready to build genuine clinical depth in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within a supportive, team-oriented environment, this short-term contract offers the hands-on experience to shape your medical career.
What You'll Be Doing
Providing high-quality inpatient and on-call clinical care across obstetrics and gynaecology under consultant supervision within NALHN's Lyell McEwin Health Service
Participating in ward rounds, emergency presentations, theatre lists, and outpatient clinics reflective of a busy metropolitan public unit
Contributing to patient assessment, management planning, and safe clinical handover in line with SA Health policies and standards
Engaging with multidisciplinary teams including midwifery, nursing, and allied health to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care
What You'll Bring
General registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) at the time of commencement
Eligibility to work as a Resident Medical Officer within SA Health's employment framework
Sound clinical reasoning and communication skills suited to a fast-moving acute environment
A commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and professional accountability consistent with SA Health's values
The ability to work effectively within a rostered, on-call structure across a metropolitan hospital setting
As per the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Medical Practitioner will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.
To be eligible for this position, you must have a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.
