I'm from SA so my knowledge of Queensland health is a little limited, but I've heard that Cairns and Townsville offer great learning opportunities and are generally friendly places to work and live.

Townsville has lots more anaesthetic opportunities as junior with intern and jho rotations, as well as 6 month rmo terms generally reserved for pgy3 onwards.
While I’ve heard excellent feedback from senior doctors about TUH’s clinical environment and training culture, I’d love to hear a firsthand perspective on the experience of working there as an intern/JHO.

They can and will roster you for 6-12 month terms in Townsville, Toowoomba, and Ipswich.
I’m currently considering moving to Townsville, for internship for 2025, drawn by its strong surgical training opportunities, particularly the chance to complete subspec surgical rotations as standalone terms.

In QLD rad onc training you have to move hospitals every year and do 1-2years regional (Townsville/cairns/ Toowoomba) so if you’re after flexibility / stability in location GP will be a better fit you don’t want to spend next 5+ years moving with young family.
Cairns and Townsville have excellent training and would see your regional experience as a plus… as would Darwin in the NT which asl has a training program with both BPTs and AT rotating to Katherine for real authentic experience.

I relocated from Melb to Townsville for internship a couple years back, and was reimbursed for all the relocation costs including flights (for myself and partner), removalist fee, petrol, and the hospital also set up and paid for 5 weeks of a 2 bedroom apartment to bridge the gap between finding somewhere to live.
