Trying to make a decision between a Scheme VIC Regional (VRTN) offer and Indep NSW Trainee offer (metro peripheral - SWSLHD/WSLHD).

Unsure of others except for Bankstown which is apparently terrible with culture and support, with many PG1/2 trying to leave to other networks.

* **JMO support -** There is a really supportive environment at Liverpool, especially appreciating how busy each person/department can be.

WSLHD, SWSLHD are notorious for how busy they are, patients come in sick, poor SE status and health awareness, poorly resourced, the job is hard and all of us are run off our feet trying to do our best, so bosses are also in various stages of burnout, departmental health reflects that.

Liverpool hospital had some of the most toxic BS I have ever seen, and I've worked in some pretty toxic places.

u/AbsoutelyNerd · flair:med student · Jan 2025 · NSW · comment

No doubt are places like SWSLHD (Liverpool, Westmead, Bankstown, Campbelltown) super busy places to work and are constantly understaffed and at capacity, whereas some of the hospitals closer to central sydney may have more manageable workloads.

Other benefit of network 2 is the attached rural hospital (Bowral) is driving distance from Campbelltown.

Liverpool ED, SWSLHD has a great work culture and has a great Fellowship pass rate, comparable to Royal North Shore Hospital, which also has a good Fellowship pass program, good support but I can’t speak for RNS having never worked there.

I have been offered a 1 year BPT Position at Campbelltown hospital (with prospect to complete the three years over there with the exam preparation) they were recently upgraded to a level 3 hospital.

Rated for pathology and acuity — one direct comparison puts RPA 'nowhere close' — plus one report of a very strong program and Fellowship pass rate. Volume is the selling point, not comfort.
