RCH preferentially hires PGY2s onto the RMO program.
Not on selection panel but have done some reviewing of CVs, cover letters, and been on the interview panel before at RCH.

Best advice is to try get a paeds rotation early - St Vs has a paeds rotation through RCH which is very popular.
Lots of med students wonder if they need to intern at St Vincent's because they offer an intern rotation to RCH - the vast majority of paediatric trainees did not intern at St Vincent's or do the paeds rotation there.

I know the RCH/MCH network in Victoria are pretty acclaimed around here and still allow PGY2 entry.
My oncology term as a HMO at RCH was interrupted by my wedding and subsequent honeymoon, I had registrars just barely struggling to keep their own head above water and blatant infighting amongst the consultants that made for a really hostile work environment.
