I did the RMO rotation at Dandenong several years ago and enjoyed it despite having no interest in plastics.

I was a PGY-1 on a surgical rotation with no residents at Monash as well, it was awful, yes final yr students are helpful but for 3rd years the teaching should be left to the registrars in my opinion.

Monash used to offer $110 an hour for internal extra daytime shifts when I was an intern in 2016.

Monash Crit Care have PGY2 jobs which do not offer ICU or anaesthesia but arguably are a pathway into a SRMO.

Dr Carolyn Tan went though hell after winning a similar complaint against her supervisor, Chris Xenos, at Monash Medical Centre nearly 20 years ago.

BPT program in Victoria is generally more well supported during exam years (can only speak about the big hospitals like monash, rmh, alfred).

Look after yourself OP, because at Monash no one else will look out for you , not workforce not MDE, not your registrars (even if they should), as an intern on a surgical rotation you are over worked , incredibly under paid with how units discourage claiming unsupported and you are unsupported.

Internship is pretty centrally regulated, even if Monash is worse with culture you are probably underestimating how much money you can pocket staying at home for a couple years.

Haven’t worked at MMC or Casey but word on the street is that they’re a fair bit messier, and culture is lacking a bit more.

Currently there are several ongoing lawsuits in Vic towards unpaid doctor in training overtime, including Western, Peninsula, Monash and a few others.

I’ve heard Victorian hospitals aren’t the best for paid overtime and heard about the monash lawsuit.

As a first year Monash reg it won't be unusual to be doing luscs overnight under level 4 (remote) supervision, whereas some schemes this might still be supervised as a third year.

If you're employed as a general HMO, you most probably won't end up at a rural site, but the only one that Monash has an agreement is is Warragul, which is roughly \~1h45m from central melb.
