Strange, the CEO of RBWH can run a gay bar in USA remotely and an RMO can't do firefighting locally with approval.

RBWH is NOT a good hospital, trust me, I've worked there as an RMO.

u/bring_me_your_dead · self:rmo · Aug 2023 · QLD · comment

I did however work with a guy who trained at both (swapped networks midway through), and he felt that the RBWH “prestige” is more just self-selection bias, and that the teaching/learning opportunities were actually better at PA.

u/Thanks-Basil · May 2026 · QLD · comment

Queensland usually has a lot of spots for BPT and I would recommend the metro north network, the interviews are fair and everyone I know got a spot.

I have never formally worked in paeds and my student rotation at TPCH Children's ED remains one of the most horrendous experiences of my life, but I was rather awed by how some of the staff were able to interact with children and get them to do go along with blood tests and procedures.

I did my intern year at Caboolture in 2018, their O&G team was great and very supportive, I loved that rotation.

There was a time in the mid 2010’s when Metro North and Metro South in QLD conducted an audit of Consultant Surgeons based on overtime requests, oncall lists, correlated with carpark entry and exits.

I worked as a Cardiology reg at TPCH for 4 months and it was the most horrendously demoralising, overworked experience in all my life - and that is with supportive bosses and colleagues.

Redcliffe and Caboolture are lovely from my experience there as a student and scribe in the past and in my experience as an intern so far at Caboolture medadmin are actually not evil which contrasts with the horror stories I have often heard and seen here.

At my previous hospital (a larger regional centre) I had those hours on some rotations as a resident, but at the RBWH it was every rotation.

There are a few primary study plans floating around that take around 6 months to complete (I used the one from RBWH) and I found that helpful in terms of structuring my study and having a weekly goal of what to cover.

In terms of general working at RBWH, like most hospitals there are really good terms (teaching, support, working hours) and some that are horrible but generally most get a balance of both
