In terms of hospitals, I’m interested in working rural as well as coastal areas - in doing some looking around, I’m keen on doing some work at Tamworth, Armidale, Wollongong Hospitals - however I’m needing to find people to discuss what you mentioned above!

Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD has a GP/Rural ED term in Milton which I highly recommend

Worked at Hornsby for five years, and have nothing but good memories of my time there 🙂 It’s a smaller hospital compared to Wollongong but has really supportive colleagues and team 🏥

Wollongong is a nice place to live tho, they will probably send you for a term in Nowra if you’re a rotational RMO for gen med - small rural hospital.

And from what was previously posted, the South East Network generally sends people rural, I've heard of people getting sent to Wollongong for a few years before being able to come back to train in the city.

I was Intern and Resident in Wollongong (albeit as an interstate applicant, so had no skin in this ‘stack’ business), before taking up a critical care job in Western Sydney then getting onto Scheme training.

I can’t speak to either hospital but you’ll get paid better in Adelaide than Wollongong

The exact opposite happens at Shellharbour hospital where the ED CMO/Reg gets the in-charge allowance and the med reg covering the ward doesn’t

Wollongong medical workforce is fairly toxic and their approach to the new national pgy1/2 framework is fairly nebulous and unsupportive.
