Thanks Hustling Ninja, had 3 posts in the last 24 hours asking for interview questions to the Alfred - was getting out of control.

The only other I could see was Alfred, who have ghosted me (I applied but I think my chances are almost 0)

Traralgon had some non-scheme jobs but I’d be very hesitant to take a job there until we see if the Alfred can turn around the toxic dumpster fire that department had become.

I did my elective in psychiatry at the Alfred and loved it, and then did a RMO rotation in Sydney and completely changed my career direction after.

u/meowinhibitor · Oct 2023 · VIC · comment

I can't wait to throw Alfred Trauma under the bus for making the morning radiology meeting (where there is essentially no learning, where patients are discussed, and it impacts ongoing patient care) under the bus for its fraudulent claim of registrar training time.

Term quality and supervision: 17 authors; 21 tagged sentences; no tally under 30

No claim reached the three-author bar.

And iirc minimum of 50% supervised shifts so you can't be rostered on for more than 50% nights, unless you work somewhere where FACEMs do night shifts (only the Alfred as far as I'm aware!

I did psych term at alfred as a student and can tell that the drs looked happy and they all were very friendly.

BPT program in Victoria is generally more well supported during exam years (can only speak about the big hospitals like monash, rmh, alfred).

I'll be joining Alfred Health next year as an intern and was curious to hear what the consensus is on the health services facilities, culture, opportunities, etc.

u/throwaway1274539537 · self:intern · Sept 2023 · VIC · comment

Curious you heard on the contrary because all the rave reviews I have heard praise it for these things + the culture is very supportive + with the Bayside merger, you have a potential line to connect up to the Alfred and Cabrini.

Never got through to an Alfred interview as I failed their "personality test" ahahaha.

I also wouldn't put too much weight into "100% exam pass rate" claims as I'm sure people have heard of, basically all the top Victorian BPT hospitals (RMH, Alfred, Austin, even Bendigo) have achieved this.

u/andaruu · July 2024 · VIC · comment

I think Alfred just pays overtime rates.

Accommodation and rural conditions: 3 authors; 3 tagged sentences; no tally under 30

No claim reached the three-author bar.

Still possible to move hospitals in PGY2 - a lot of my friends who went rural ended up doing BPT/surg at the big RMH/Alfred/Austin/St Vs.

u/Shenz0r · flair:reg · July 2024 · VIC · comment

I've met many reg's who did pgy1-3 at austin/alfred/rmh and still had to go rural for their first ortho reg years

Read the verdicts on 8 units (under three authors it is one person's experience)
Alfred BPT Physician training (BPT / general medicine) · 8 authors · 10 tagged sentences; no tally under 30
Well regarded and internally fed — 'generally well regarded for BPT, but tend to only take their own'. Peninsula Health shares its BPT teaching resources.
Alfred surgical General surgery · 3 authors · 4 tagged sentences; no tally under 30
The surgical PGY2/3 stream people actually get into from outside; the only caution is from someone accepted into it asking which terms to avoid.
Alfred surgical HMO General surgery · 3 authors · 3 tagged sentences; no tally under 30
Undersubscribed every year, along with RMH's and St Vincent's — the corpus's standing route into a Melbourne tertiary for an external.
Alfred crit care HMO Intensive care · 3 authors · 3 tagged sentences; no tally under 30
The highest conversion claim in the corpus: crit care HMOs 'basically have a 100% chance getting onto the program'. The fine print, from the same discussion: 24 crit care HMO3 roles are advertised and only 6 get the six months of anaesthetics.
Alfred ED HMO Emergency medicine · 3 authors · 3 tagged sentences; no tally under 30
Tracked for offer timing — offers land in early-to-mid July, ahead of the PMCV window. No quality verdict.
